  1. Add the following Egyptian numerals

(i) First group:

  • 9 symbols of 1000 = 9000
  • 6 symbols of 100 = 600
  • 8 symbols of 1 = 8
    Total = 9608

Second group:

  • 5 symbols of 100 = 500
  • 7 symbols of 1 = 7
     Total = 507

Sum = 9608 + 507 = 10115

Final Answer:
= 1 × 10000 + 1 × 100 + 1 × 10 + 5 × 1

(ii) First group:

  • 1 symbol of 1000 = 1000
  • 8 symbols of 10 = 80
    Total = 1080

Second group:

  • 3 symbols of 10 = 30
  • 6 symbols of 1 = 6
    Total = 36

Sum = 1080 + 36 = 1116

= 1 × 1000 + 1 × 100 + 1 × 10 + 6 × 1
